Microcurrent therapy dates back to ancient Greece. One seeking treatment may have been submerged in barrels of water with electric eels! Another version of treatment applied during the period of 50 AD, was the “Seashore Treatment,” which involved the patient placing one foot on an electric fish and the other foot on wet sand to complete the electrical circuit.
This type of treatment was used to help patients who suffered from pain, headaches, and gout, from what we know.

Electric current to cure arthritis and cephalaea in ancient Greek medicine

It’s absolutely unbelievable how much we knew back then about how the human body worked, and ways to heal it, even if we did not understand it, we trusted what we were shown in nature.

I wouldn’t want to be in a tub of eels, but I’m sure that those who were, had a damn good reason, and did not hesitate if it helped to ease their pain!

So what are microcurrents and what is it that makes it so special?

We as living beings have our own natural electric current.
We are a walking, talking electromagnetic field, and it is that field that holds our atoms together and creates every part of our being!
Without this electromagnetic field, our atoms that are 99.99999999% space, would just be free floating around, and there would be no form.
Very basic, but very important.

Going to bring it back to the cells my friends.

Cells are made up of at least 70% water. Water conducts electricity. Each cell uses a flow of electrical charges to communicate through electromagnetic signaling.

These currents are not perceptible, obviously, we can’t feel every cell signaling other cells or we would go absolutely bonkers.
Static electricity from the clothes out of the dryer gives me the jumps.
Reading this lovely research paper. I discovered,
according to Thomas W. Wing. D.C., N.D., LAc., a fifth-generation Chinese Doctor, who is credited with introducing the first microcurrent instrument in the late 1970s, a microcurrent is “any electrical device that produces less than one milliampere can technically be called a microcurrent”.

I am going to pause here to reiterate that I am not a doctor, I am not a scientist, and I have not had any formal training on microcurrents and the therapies listed.
These articles are based on my research, and I am new to this deep dive into this incredible and brilliant field of science. I will update these posts as I go along, but I am writing as a wide-eyed student, and am bringing you all along on the journey.
Just to clarify.
Read on.

Frequency Specific Microcurrents

Aside from the eels in Greece, microcurrent therapy has been around for almost 100 years in North America, however it was clunky, out of date, and not well received in the growing western medical society, and dropped out of use by the 1940s.

1940’s Frequency Machine

Then in the 70s things started to be discovered and explored, a list decoded, and the powers that be put the information in just the right healing hands.

Dr. Carolyn McMakin began in 1995 using frequencies passed on from an osteopath in Canada who had a practice that came with a machine made in the 1920s.

This lady is absolutely phenomenal folks.
I have watched a couple hours of her talks just in the last few days.
Also just ordered her book, The Resonance Effect! I cannot wait to start going through that.
Here is a link to YouTube for one of her video interviews, if you want to check it out. Frequency Specific Microcurrent with Dr. Carolyn McMakin

I am learning all this as I go folks, and I’m finding good information on microcurrent therapy for uses other than skincare, which is still slightly hidden.
Light articles or heavy science research.
Microcurrent therapy is however, FDA Approved! (If that is important to you)

This is a list published by the Cleveland Clinic of acknowledged treatments:
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is most often used to treat pain, especially nerve and muscle pain, inflammation, and scar tissue, from the following conditions:

  • Shingles.
  • Burns.
  • Kidney stones.
  • Asthma.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Disc injuries.
  • Fibromyalgia.
  • Diabetes-related neuropathy.
  • Neuromas (overgrowth and scarring to a nerve after an injury).
  • Tendinopathy (inflammation and/or swelling of the tendon).
  • Acute (sudden) and chronic (long-term) musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Acute and chronic neuropathic (nerve) pain.
  • Chronic fracture and bone pain.
  • Arthritis.
  • Torticollis (the head is tilted to one side).
  • Disc injuries/discogenic- and facet-based pain.
  • Viscerally-referred pain.
  • Concussions.
  • Headaches.
  • Plantar fasciitis (pain in the heel and foot).
  • Sports injuries.
  • Wounds.

Let’s jive about what microcurrents are doing in your body.
If that cell signaling is interrupted or cut off, by an injury or disease, then obviously the cells cannot perform their functions.
(In my opinion, every ailment can be traced back to the inability of cells to repair themselves.)

“One of the ways FSM works is by potentially increasing the production of a substance called ATP that’s inside injured tissues. ATP is the major source of energy for all cellular reactions in your body. Because treatment with FSM can increase the amount of ATP that’s created in your damaged cells by as much as 500%, this treatment may help with your recovery. Depending on the condition, treatment with FSM can “loosen” or soften the muscles, which can help relieve pain or stiffness.”
Cleveland Clinics

These frequencies are speaking the language of the affected cells!
Which are then speaking to the affected tissue, tendon, muscle, bone, organ, etc!

This is so profound you guys, I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around it all, in a totally nerdy good way.
(Yes, Nemo, I referred to myself as a nerd for the first time ever.)
And this is just like the physical application! With pads or gloves or the wristbands like Healy has.

I am just going to speak to that for a moment, as I have a personal story I can throw in here.

Healy is a personal wearable microcurrent device

I have had my Healy for about a month now, and believe it or not, I’m actually quite a big skeptic.
My gut said YES, and every fiber of my body was excited and intrigued and just fascinated by the whole package in a tiny device.

But don’t be fooled, I did wonder if this actually worked.
If the microcurrents, the quantum sensor, the frequency thing would really have a noticeable effect on my life.

Obviously, it did. In more ways than one and I’m continuing to stay open to the multitude of ways, it will continue to impact me.

I am a fairly healthy person. I am very grateful and blessed for this fact!
Makes me a terrible test subject, however.

Aside from my eyesight and dental health improving (both of which are bigger leaps) I finally got clear on something that I could put to the test.
My itchy scalp.
Since drinking ASEA, it has not been as bad as it was let’s say 6-12 months ago, but folks I am telling you, when my scalp itched, it ITCHED.

I would have a hard time falling asleep at night, I bought satin pillowcases and would use witch hazel and Rosemary essential oil. Shampoo, not shampoo, cold water showers, drinking more water, so many things.
All of these things I LOVE, and they did provide temporary relief, however, whatever the root of my issue was, it could not be solved by putting stuff ON my scalp.
It was hard to pinpoint because it was not constant and mostly at night, then sometimes not at all.

So I decided I didn’t want an itchy scalp anymore and this would be my test!

The Healy model I purchased did not come with the Beauty or Skin Programs, so I ran the program that I had, which was Skin Meridian. Be sure to check out my Meridian post to read more!

Three days.

I ran this program once a day for three days.

Itchy scalp is gone.

Ran it once like four days after the initial three.

My head itch is gone.

This might be a small thing, but if anyone has suffered from an itchy scalp, you know, it’s not a small thing.
Look at all those ailments on that list above!

Can you imagine being free from those by running an average 55-minute program, using an electrical current that you can’t even feel?!

Skin Meridian Program

This is just the beginning of the explorations we are going to go on together around this topic of frequency medicine.

This topic of microcurrents is so phenomenal, and I am looking forward to the journey of exploring it more and being able to communicate better about what it is and how it works.
I am the first to admit I am new to this, so I would love to hear any constructive input in the comments!

I appreciate you being here on my journey to find my voice and share my passions.

Love and vibes,
