A fond memory I have of childhood is my mom making us kids a mug of Sleepytime tea to drink before heading off to bed.
It’s so cute with the bear and pajamas and the fireplace. Aww, it brings back the nostalgic feeling of being a kid, with that warm and special cozy feeling.

Aside from the occasional cup of peppermint tea, I never drank tea from childhood up until I was pregnant. That’s a pretty good span of time where I was just consuming water, coffee, and alcohol. Lots of alcohol.
When I found out I was pregnant and didn’t drink anymore, my pallet craved something different to drink, especially something I knew would benefit me and my growing human.
I had ordered the BumpBox, a pregnancy subscription box, and inside the first one were some loose leaf blends from Birds&Bees Teas, an organic tea company out of Denver Colorado that supports mama’s throughout all stages of pregnancy.

The ritual around making the tea was special, even if I didn’t realize it at the time. There is something to be said about loose-leaf tea and the process of making it, the intention behind it, and the appreciation of the herbs that are within it.

Herbal Tea Types

In this article, I am covering herbal teas, and not traditional Green tea or Black tea. One fun fact, however, black tea is just fermented green tea leaves!

Herbal tea types and combinations are seemingly endless, have a compilation of benefits that are longer than my driveway, and with the variety, everyone is sure to find a few that please their pallet, even if you say you aren’t a tea drinker.

Loose Leaf Tea

Loose leaf tea is really where you can get creative, making your own blends or purchasing pre-blends. This tea can also be cheaper in bulk than by purchasing the box teas and tend to be fresher.
Rose Mountian Herbs is my favorite website to order bulk herbs from, especially ones like chamomile, calendula, lavender, and hibiscus. They also have an AMAZING collection of organic herbal tea blends, with fun names and powerful benefits.
Moon Ease Tea is an indispensable and satisfying infusion blend designed to ease women through their natural rhythms. The gentle flavors of raspberry and spearmint compliment the more earthy notes of marshmallow, valerian, and skullcap.
Fairytale Tea, Happy Man Tea, and Blossoms of Health Tea are just a few more!

One of the fun parts about choosing a loose-leaf tea is the accessories! You can choose from a large variety of tea steepers, in the mug infusers, resuable bags, or traditional tea balls.

If you are looking for high-quality organic loose-leaf traditional teas and blends, I recommend Vandam India. They provide organic, fair trade, ethically sourced teas!
They also have a great selection of tea brewing accessories and other goodies great for tea gifting!

Tea Bags

While I love and use loose-leaf tea all the time, there are times when it is a pain in the arse. When I’m not feeling well, when I’m traveling, or when there are specific blends that I don’t have access to I am more than happy to use traditional tea bags, especially when companies use the more environmentally friendly bags.

My hands down top company to purchase bagged tea from is Traditional Medicinals, and they have an abundance of beautifully and intentionally crafted blends!
Some of my favorites are Throat Coat Original, Nighty Night, and Tumeric with Meadowsweet and Ginger.
The first time I had the tea with meadowsweet my taste buds were blown. To me, it tastes like the way fall leaves smell after a good rain. No joke, try it.

Vandham India also has premium blends that are curated for any possible wellness effect. These are a little more pricy, but they are loose-leaf teas in a plant-based biodegradable travel-friendly tea bag.

Five Herbal Tea And Their Benefits

I’ve been tending to get a bit long-winded on these posts ( I hope you don’t mind, as I’m having fun!) so today I am choosing only five of my favorite herbal teas to discuss their benefits.

The use of herbal teas dates back thousands of years, all around the globe.

Plant medicine is the real deal folks, as long as it is done with education, whether that be through self-research or the help of a certified herbalist.

This really is a simple, affordable, and delicious way to treat yourself from the inside out on a daily basis. One can really get creative using teas, make sure to have a cupboard cleared out, you’re going to need the space! Hehe.
Covered today was such a small measure of the benefits and the variety, I sincerely hope this excites and encourages you to do some more research and explore for yourself how herbal teas can benefit you and your family’s everyday health.
